Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Library Assistant to join the team at HMP Millsike, a brand-new prison estate near York, to support the delivery of high-quality library services within the establishment. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in promoting literacy, learning, and cultural engagement, ensuring that library resources effectively support prisoners’ development and rehabilitation.
In this role, you’ll work closely with prisoners, prison staff, and external partners to make a positive impact on the prison community. From providing friendly customer service to supporting engaging library events, you’ll be at the heart of a service that aims to inspire learning and promote personal growth.
The role includes evening and weekend shifts to ensure library services are available to prisoners at various times.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all library visitors, delivering high standards of customer service and assisting with information access.
Support the library's daily operations, including book circulation, record-keeping, and maintaining resources.
Assist in organising and running engaging library activities and cultural events, such as reading programmes and author visits.
Ensure safety and security within the library environment, adhering to health and safety protocols and prison regulations.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of prisoners by promoting literacy and learning. If you are passionate about library services and have the skills and experience required, we encourage you to apply. Join us in creating an environment where knowledge and growth thrive!
