Summary
As a Specialist Orthoptist, maintain the delivery of a high standard of clinical work within all aspects of the orthoptic practise and clinical teaching. Work as an autonomous practitioner in undertaking orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and management of patients of all ages, ranging from pre-term babies to the elderly and who have various communication abilities and who have been referred from a variety of sources. Take responsibility for an individual caseload of orthoptic patients with complex presentation and needs and provide specialist advice to other health professionals regarding patient management Participate in the theoretical and clinical teaching of orthoptics to orthoptic undergraduates on placement to the department Participate in the theoretical and clinical teaching of orthoptics to medical students, ophthalmic nurses, optometrists and other health professionals visiting the orthoptic department each week. Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practise as an orthoptist and keep a personal professional development portfolio. To participate in departmental audit and research projects Ensure compliance with infection control procedures. Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework.
