Summary
A Vacancy at Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
The post-holder is a lead speech and language therapist who will deliver expert interventions in voice and communication therapy to gender diverse and dysphoric patients. The post-holder will have expert vocal demonstration and pedagogical skills in all aspects of voice and communication therapy (including pitch, resonance, vocal fold weight, voice quality, vocal health, presence, journeying, plurality, authenticity) and will deliver interventions in one-to-one and group therapy settings, scheduled in both in-clinic and videoconference appointments, according to the needs of individual patients and of the SLT service. The post-holder will understand the intersections of the speaking and singing voice, and the effect of hormones on both.
The post-holder will have highly developed counselling skills and be able to hold patients therapeutically and affirmatively in individual work and group process. The post-holder will have and demonstrate highly sensitive and respectful trans cultural awareness and be in an ongoing reflective process of owning positionality and clinical privilege. The post-holder will maintain professional and therapeutic boundaries at all times, holding appropriate therapeutic neutrality.
The post-holder will have significant experience in presenting at conferences, continuing professional development and training events in the field at local and national levels. They will have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• To liaise and work closely with the Lead Consultant SLT & Head of SLT service in the day-to-day running, operation and performance of the SLT service, and to deputise in their absence.
• To oversee and manage all referrals for voice and communication therapy to the SLT service from the clinical team, screening for potential prioritisation, and tracking and reporting wait times and waiting list numbers to the Lead Consultant SLT & Head of SLT service monthly.
• To overview innovation, development and review in all aspects of individual therapy, voice group and workshop programmes, in collaboration with the Lead Consultant SLT & Head of SLT service; this may include developing policies and procedures that impact on own area of specialis
• To deliver pedagogically principled, therapeutically boundaried, culturally sensitive expert voice and communication initial appointments, follow ups, groups and workshops across the SLT pathways, requiring a nuanced understanding and management of complexity matrices and access needs arising from diverse communication profiles and learning preferences
• To liaise with GPs and ENT Consultants/medics in referrals for assessment and local treatment/follow up for suspected voice disorder, where necessary.
