Summary
This is a very exciting opportunity for a passionate, empathetic and well organised individual to take on the management of the Bristol Haematology & Oncology Centre cancer support workers. You will be working closely with and under the supervision and guidance of the Personalised Care & Support and Cancer Information & Support Manager to ensure delivery of the key elements of personalised care to people living with and beyond cancer, including the services delivered within our Cancer Information & Support centre.
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, between the service operating hours of 8.00am -4.00pm or 8.30am -4.30pm.
Management
1. Under the direction of the Personalised Care & Support & Cancer Information and Support Manager (PCS/CIS), to be responsible for the management, coordination and smooth running of the Cancer Support Worker Team.
2. Manage the Cancer Support Worker team including Annual Leave, Sickness, 1:1s, Annual Appraisals, workload, staff development & wellbeing including coordination of peer review & supervision.
Information Provision
1. The information needs of users are met. Where required guide them to appropriate services, making referrals to appropriate clinical staff as.
Direct Service User contact
1. To provide non−directive, emotional support to patients and others affected by cancer including at times of
2. To provide information about where further support appropriate to the client’s needs may be obtained (e.g. more specialist services).
Cancer Support Worker Duties
1. Triage incoming calls and initiate appropriate response according to protocols and individual pathways, using good communication skills, basic clinical awareness and appropriate tools and procedures, liaising as appropriate when non routine and refer complex decisions to the clinical team for assessment and review
Organisation and Planning:
1. Organise and prioritise the designated workload in relation to identified needs
2. Planning/inviting/organising of Health and Well-Being events or other supported self- management events
