Summary

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University on an exciting project to develop a point-of-care biosensor for c-peptide assessment.

The project is funded by Breakthrough T1D (USA) via a Strategic Research Agreement grant, awarded to Dr Samet Sahin in the School of Engineering at Lancaster University. This post is an indefinite contract commencing on the 1st of December 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter; however, the role remains contingent on external funding which currently is due to end on the 30th of November 2027. The interviews for this post will be held online.

The project aims to develop a blood test for c-peptide that can be performed at the time and place of patient care for the assessment of the pre-symptomatic period of type 1 diabetes. This will provide an easy and reliable c-peptide assessment with a significant reduction in time compared to conventional standards in clinical practice.

Candidate requirements:

A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.

A PhD awarded or near completion in affinity-based electrochemical sensor technologies or similar area.

A publication record of research in a relevant area and the ability to collect, analyse and interpret experimental data especially electrochemical and material characterisation.

Good verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in dealing with antibodies, antibody immobilisation strategies, nanomaterials, and electrode modifications is also desirable.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the project PI Dr Samet Sahin (s.sahin@lancaster.ac.uk) for further information about the position.
