Summary

As an Eye Donor Technician you will be responsible for the daily screening of every single death at NUH, based on pre-defined medical categories. As an Eye donor Technician you will initiate conversations about potential tissue donation with the bereaved, face to face and over the telephone in a respectful and empathetic manner. As an Eye Donor Technician you will be required to manage the service independently, this will include the day to day running of the service, making decisions independently, and seeking advice where appropriate during the coordinators leave/sickness. As an Eye Donor Technician you must ensure confidentiality at all times in accordance with hospital policies and guidance. Maintain effective channels of communication between internal and external agencies in the process of facilitation of tissue donation. Extract and accurately record health information from patient notes, ensuring all referral documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner, and forwarded daily to the National Referral Centre. Undertake eye retrieval procedures and techniques in accordance with NHSBT Eye Enucleation SOP5858. Ensure equipment used is fit for purpose, record and report any damages/faults As an Eye Donation technician you will be expected to perform duties in the mortuary and at funeral directors, with direct exposure to the deceased Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe moving and handling of deceased patients' and ensure mandatory training is current The post-holder must have dexterity to perform precise and delicate clinical procedures on the eye of deceased patients Be aware of the need for confidentiality both in the written and spoken word. Complete daily, monthly and yearly data and audit requirement, and forward to appropriate bodies when and in format requested. Represent, where necessary, the Nottingham Eye Retrieval Partnership, at local and national events. Demonstrate duties and techniques to students/visiting colleagues both NUH/NHSBT The post holder must be able to work as a lone worker at times. Be able to competently use Careflow, Notis, Nerve Centre and other information technology systems and participate in training programmes to develop and update personal skills to meet the needs of the service. Maintain a tidy, safe working environment, reporting any hazards or faults timely and appropriately Present a professional, polite and courteous attitude at all times and be appropriately dressed when on duty.
