Summary

In March 2024 Chats Palace joined the National Digital Inclusion Network, launching Chats Palace as a Hackney-based Digital Hub, tackling digital poverty amongst local people. As this is a new endeavour for us, initially we have focused on delivering a programme via The Palace Club, our supportive programme for Hackney’s Elders (65+ years) which began in 2018 and is now an essential part of Homerton life for local older people. The Palace Club currently has 100+ active members with 30 Elders attending each week. Our goal is to support all local Elders still living in their own homes, many with long term health and mental health issues. From short term benefits around enjoyment of shared social events to longer term impact on mental health and wellbeing, we created The Palace Club as best way to assist local Elders in challenging negative impact of poverty on their lives - becoming more socially active and engaged. Getting our local Elders confidently on-line, through free data and Device Bank refurbished equipment, is now part of our programme towards achieving this outcome.

Job Description:

We are now looking for a freelance Digital Officer to build and deliver our Digital Hub programme. In partnership with our Community Engagement Producer, The Digital Officer will:

• Set-up our new digital hub as part of Palace Club Tuesday programme, establishing mechanisms to collect data on hub participants and track delivery of project outcomes and outputs.
• Plan and deliver an initial 3-month programme for our Digital Hub (November 2024 – January 2025) including 1:1 digital drop-in sessions working on an individual basis with local Elders, sharing free data from the Data Bank and tutoring Elders who receive new tablets from the Device Bank.
• Devise and deliver a training programme for the Community Engagement Producer and 3 digital volunteers in January 2025 so they feel fully confident to continue to deliver the Digital Hub programme from February 2025 onwards.
• Act as an ambassador for our Digital Hub, promoting it to other Hackney groups, building wider awareness of our Elders digital programme while also widening to include other targeted sectors of the community.
• Focus on building new partnerships with local digital companies/initiatives – creating a volunteer programme so we can build on to our launch Digital Hub programme with input from new, skilled volunteers from digital sector. This will include contacting new East-London digital start-ups at Hackney Bridge/LLDC Enterprise Zone.
