Summary

HMP Huntercombe X 1 Post
HMP Huntercombe is a dedicated Foreign National Prison near Henley in Berkshire. It is designated Category C and has a regime that is wholly designed to meet the needs and policy requirements of prisoners who are Foreign National. All prisoners are expected to be returning to their country of origin. The role is supporting the Governor and his team, and South Central Psychology Service in meeting the varied needs of the population which includes risk reporting, MAPPA, Counter Terrorism work, and other aspects of work associated with a category C adult male population albeit those pending deportation. Some working with Home Office colleagues an HQ policy will be an integral part of the role.

The role also includes a good degree of close working with the Governor and his team in managing the particular needs of the population to assure a safe and productive regime.

This is effectively a singleton role although support in the South Central team is intrinsic. The role will have expectations of working across the South Central region as a member of the South Central Psychology team.

HMP Huntercombe is in a relatively rural location close to both Reading and Oxford, with good road transport links.

HMP Bullingdon X 1 Post

HMP Bullingdon is a Reception/Resettlement and Training prison holding in excess of 1,000 prisoners. The site holds both those convicted of sexual offences and those with violent and other offences. There is an existing team of qualified and in-training Psychology staff on-site who undertake risk assessments, 1:1 work, consultations to the prison priorities of safety and rehabilitation, as well as being part of the offending behaviour programmes offered to primarily people convicted of sexual offences. The team work as part of a wider South Central regional team, with expectations for work at a variety of prison sites. The role is primarily that of Treatment Management in the Offending Behaviour Programmes team. The prison is located near Bicester, with easy access to the M40, M25, and Bicester Village outlet shopping.

HMP Winchester X 2 Posts

HMP Winchester is a busy reception prison, and safety is a key concern for the establishment. South Central Psychology Service need to add a B7 Registered Psychologist to join the locally based Psychology team and focus on this important area. Work includes (but is not limited to):

Being the Psychology ‘safety lead’ for the establishment. Working with colleagues across the prison including Healthcare, Offender Management, Safety and Residential areas to support a multidisciplinary approach to case management

Providing support to staff in the residential areas around safety related work, including attendance at safety related meetings where appropriate and supporting the upskilling of staff

Having regular contact and providing support to residential managers and senior managers to help them shape culture and safety in their areas

Providing proactive input to complex cases, including consultation to staff and one-to-one support to prisoners where appropriate

Engaging in reflective practice support and coaching to operational staff around day-to-day safety and developing communication skills when working with prisoners

Providing support to scrutiny of use of force processes and engaging in follow up work with individual staff where appropriate to aid development

Working closely with the Mental Health in-reach Team

The team work as part of a wider South Central regional team, with expectations of work at a variety of our sites.

Winchester is a thriving historic city with the prison located in walking distance of its centre. It is 10 mins from the A34, 15 from the M3 and an hour from London by half hourly trains.

HMP Channings Wood X 1 Post

HMP Channings Wood is a Category C prison with training and resettlement functions. The site holds both those convicted of sexual offences and those with violent and other offences. There is an existing team of qualified and in-training Psychology staff on-site who undertake parole directed risk assessments, 1:1 work, consultations to the prison priorities of safety and rehabilitation, as well as being part of offending behaviour programmes. The team work as part of a wider Devon and South West regional team, with opportunities for work at a variety of prison sites. The prison is located near Newton Abbot, with easy access to the coastlines and moors of Devon and Cornwall.

Overview of the job

This is a non-operational offender facing job.

Summary

The job holder will be working with prisoners, people on probation and staff and applying their competence in psychology to reduce the risk of harm and of re- offending by undertaking a range of work including risk assessment of prisoners, conducting research, providing consultancy and delivering training for staff and assessment and interventions for offenders. This is non-operational and non rotational offender facing job.

This job holder will be able to provide designated support and supervision to trainee psychologists.
