Summary
This is a new substantive post and has arisen primary to cover our interventional neuroradiology services and as a part of transformation and expansion.
The Radiology Directorate is in the process of developing interventional neuroradiology services aiming to
-Support the Hyperacute Stroke and Trauma Services
-Develop centre of excellence for Interventional neuro radiology
The candidate will be expected to support core interventional neuroradiology procedures supporting acute, in patients and elective pathways. The acute cases include but not limited to mechanical thrombectomy and haemorrhagic services.
The candidate should be well versed with and confident in reporting diagnostic neuroradiology including CT Angiograms for Stroke, aneurysms etc. and contribute to MDTs, clinics and support other services as and when required or interested.

The post is designed to share the responsibility for the provision of comprehensive interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology services including the provision of neurovascular clinics and MDTs..
The successful candidate is expected to support Radiology department primarily in the following areas:
· Neuro Interventional procedures
· Mechanical Thrombectomy Service (MT)
· Weekend MT and coiling service
· MDTs
· Clinics
· On call
· Cross-sectional neuroradiology reporting
· Work cross site KGH and QH
It is desirable that the candidate has experience with advanced imaging modalities such as Perfusion, Spectroscopy, Functional MRI to expand the service as we have recently acquired a 3T MRI with all the facilities.
Contribution to the vetting cross-sectional scans, interventional procedures and solving queries from clinical and radiology teams is mandatory.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
We work in close collaboration with the neurosurgery department and have commenced dedicated interventional neuroradiology clinics.
We are a Neuroscience centre catering to a large population and are a referral centre for neurosurgery for other trusts in Essex as well. We have dedicated neurophysicians, neurosurgeons, 5 full day dedicated anaesthetist, interventional nurses, and radiographers at Queen’s hospital to cover acute and elective interventional neuroradiology procedures.
We have an angiographic suite (Philips Azurion) dedicated for interventional neuroradiology based within the main theatre complex, with the latest angiographic bi-plane unit from Siemens for general interventions.
We have recently acquired a 3T MRI with Spectroscopy, perfusion and DTI facilities and it is desirable that the candidate has experience in these advanced imaging modalities.
Our workload is varied, but largely consists of supporting inpatient / AE neuroradiology service, busy Stroke Unit, Neurology service, Neurosurgery and Neuro ITU.
Interventional neuroradiology service consists of neuro vascular interventions for 5 weekdays and 1 day over the weekend. Currently seeing a mix of approximately 500 acute and elective examinations over the current 5 days per week service. The acute examinations include but not limited to mechanical thrombectomy and haemorrhagic services.
The service is being developed to provide a 24/7 neuro-interventional service Northeast London STP wide for Stroke INR service with our partner organizations with the following existing facilities.
