Summary


The ward clerk role entails working as an integral part of the team taking responsibility for coordinating and to maintaining an efficient, welcoming, and proactive administrative and receptionist service. The post holder will ensure that the reception areas have adequate cover and support at all times; that families are welcomed onto the ward / unit; that phones are answered, and communication accurately recorded, and that admin processes are efficient and of a high standard. They will also need to ensure that admissions are set up and run smoothly and will be expected to liaise with patients and their families via telephone to arrange admission, transfer and discharge processes. The post holders must adopt a professional and caring attitude with a polite and courteous manner in all aspects of communication to staff, patients, their families and visiting teams.
• To run a highly efficient and patient-focussed reception service.
• To provide full administrative and clerical support to the department as required.
• Greeting patients and visitors on their arrival to the department.
• To deal proactively and effectively with a wide range of enquires from colleagues across all professions, escalating or seeking support when appropriate and ensuring a high level of communication is maintained.
• To liaise directly with the patient and their family daily, both face to face and over the phone, providing appropriate information and triaging enquiries and directing them to the most appropriate clinical team or to the Nurse in Charge.

• To ensure that the chemotherapy nurses have access to the required patient information and reports e.g. daily expected patient lists.
• To ensure that the coding department receives the required patient information on a daily basis so that all chemotherapy income can be fully recouped.
• To be responsible for regular collection of data and information as requested by the Matron, Service Manager or Sister, including quality statistics and patient details.
• To support service improvement initiatives implemented by the Matron, Service
