Summary
Here at Castle Hill Breast Care Unit, we need a motivated, full-time (37.5 hours) Band 5/6 Radiographer to join our friendly and enthusiastic team. The successful applicant must have a Radiography Degree or equivalent, and current HCPC Registration.
Working in Breast Imaging means no more on–call, unsocial hours, bank holidays or weekends… (well, just the occasional Saturday!) If you join us as a Band 5 or as an NQ radiographer, you’ll be guaranteed a Band 6 post on completion of the Post Grad Award in Mammography.
Our team is responsible for providing symptomatic and screening mammography for Hull and East Yorkshire and both North, and North East Lincolnshire. We have 3 mobile units covering this wide geographical area as well as our main base at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham, so a full driving license is essential. Our fully digital service enables us to provide a consistently high standard of breast imaging.
All our staff are encouraged and supported to achieve their career goals. We have radiographers who have advanced their skills in image reporting, breast ultrasound and interventional procedures. All staff are involved with training and mentoring of new staff and students.

· To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high quality diagnostic mammography service whilst maintaining a high level of patient care.
· To ensure the practice is carried out in accordance with department and NHS Breast Screening policies and protocols.
· To maintain a high standard of mammographic technique, keeping radiation as low as reasonably achievable for a diagnostic image
· To assist in the teaching of junior staff and students
· To undertake all mammographic procedures and acquire a good skill and knowledge in all aspects of mammographic practice.
· To take responsibility for the daily management of the clinical corridor and ensure a timely and efficient workflow through the unit and the mobile vans
· To act to ease difficult situations with patients and staff
· To provide up to date information for patients questions
· To help reduce anxiety levels for patient, partners and carers
· To undertake continued updates of good practice N.I.C.E.
· Take part and perform clinical and quality assurance audit
· To line manage junior staff as required by the departmental management structure

· Provide information and advice to patients and relatives about radiation safety and radiation issues
· Offer the highest standards of care in both physical and psychological respects in all aspects of examinations and interventions in order to ensure effective procedures that ultimately achieve measurable health gains.
· Apply safe and effective moving and handling skills in order to protect all individuals.
· Take appropriate action in an emergency situation
· View previous records relating to the patient using information obtained to guide and make adjustments to imaging procedure.
· Assist in undressing/dressing before/after the procedure
· Explain the procedure.
· Judge and act on compliance/non-compliance throughout procedure.
· Confirm personal details and record relevant history according to local/national protocols.
· Assess client/patient’s emotional state (sometimes within the context of just having received bad news or being recalled for further procedures and often dealing with high levels of anxiety) and respond appropriately.
· Observe and record external abnormalities of the breast.
· Confirm and record previous breast imaging, disease and treatment.
· Confirm and record use of hormone therapy.
· Position with the minimum of discomfort to achieve optimal images.
· Seek help and advice from appropriate sources within multi-disciplinary team when required.
· Advise of result reporting procedure and give additional information.
· Answer questions accurately and honestly or refer appropriately if outside the operator’s terms of reference.
· Record views taken and radiation exposure factors.
· Responsible for health and safety, care and comfort of patients throughout their examination.
