Summary

Work as an integral part of the Unit team including answering the security buzzer and ensuring the parents/relatives receive a friendly and welcoming service. To use internal computer systems e.g. Cerner/Badger for the input of patient information and requests, and accessing Trust information via the internal internet system. To ensure patients are admitted and discharged correctly and transfers are recorded on Cerner/Badger. To update patient demographics ensure bed board is correct and babies are transferred in a timely manner. Answer telephone and co-ordinate messages initiating action accordingly. Use of the Trusts Evolve system, which manages Electronic Medical Records. Preparing documents for scanning by creating appropriate cover sheets and delivering notes to the scanning department. To communicate with parents and families in a professional, sensitive and appropriate manner. Be available to listen to parents/relatives about their concerns issues and suggestions related to patient care management ensuring the Matron or Nurse in charge is informed immediately. In the absence of the Neonatal Facilities Assistant report and document faulty medical equipment and ensure parent accommodation is tidy and snack bar filled up. To liaise and communicate with other departments both internally and externally as appropriate. To undertake photocopying and faxing as requested. To assist the nurse in charge with off duty. To carry out any other clerical duties of a similar nature as may be required by nursing and medical staff or the matron. To report an event, incident or complaint involving staff, parents, or visitor to the nurse in charge. To attend annual mandatory training. To ensure a smart and groomed appearance at all times. To recognise the limitations of own competence asking for assistance from an appropriate member of staff whenever appropriate. To book advance appointments onto clinics via Cerner for various medical led clinics, e.g eye follow up and prolonged jaundice clinic. To support staff in the use of Cerner/Badger, providing on the job training as required. To check data via fail safe system and ensure new-born blood spot samples/forms are completed correctly according to a pre-determined standard and suitable for sending off to the screening lab at St Helier. To order stationery using Oracle system Sort, distribute and prioritise incoming post using judgement and experience to decide which documents are to be passed to consultants and which may be passed to other areas for information or To arrange follow up outpatient appointments to Paediatrics and Ophthalmology. Making up new purple notes folders for loose filing and FIC folders. Obtain, prepare and maintain Neonatal records for all babies on NICU ensuring that case notes stored are retrieved in good time. To organise the return of files no longer required in the Neonatal unit to Coding, ensuring accurate tracking of these files at all times. To obtain case notes required for audits and M&M meetings. To file any results and correspondence in case notes as required. Ensure name labels, wristbands and blood spot are available in all purple folders. To update cot bureau on Badgernet in the absence of data administrator. To ensure all outcome Phlebotomy and NRAC appointments and clinics are amended and up to date Ensure any missed clinical outcomes are escalated to the relevant clinician and updated in Surrey Safe Care and Badgernet. To report It/systems errors on Hornbill. To record daily checks on the 24/7 computers. To work with Neonatal Technician and use the Ipad to scan medical devices in and out of the unit. To report and record any medical devices loaned to other wards. Be able to work independently within NICU ensuring all daily jobs are completed and the booking of onward care for babies in NICU, TC and outliers on JBW. To work closely with the paediatric team to facilitate changes in clinics and changes with consultants, adding and removing slots when needed. To liaise with staff concerned with patient services e.g. medical, health visitors, bereavement office, safeguarding team, NCOT.
