Summary

We are looking for Stores Technician to join us in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. The School undertakes broad research across Biological Chemistry, Synthesis and Catalysis, Molecular Bonding and Spectroscopy and Materials, supported by some of the most comprehensive technical services in the sector, and offers teaching to over 700 undergraduates annually. It operates across three sites: the main Chemistry Building and Biodiscovery Institute (BDI), (both on University Park) and the GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratory (CNL) on the Jubilee Campus, with the Stores Team offering provisions at the main Chemistry Building and CNL. This role will be based in the Chemistry Building at University Park.

What the role involves:

Lead and manage the Stores Technical Team across both sites, working collaboratively with academic colleagues, post-doctoral researchers, postgraduates, the School’s wider technical team, and the School’s administration team.

Oversee Stores provision at both the Chemistry Building and CNL using the University’s procurement procedures; monitoring stock levels, placing orders, receipt and processing of deliveries, goods receipting, and issuing/distribution to end user.

Employing and maintaining Health and Safety standards throughout all aspects of your work, ensuring safe and accurate record keeping.

Communicating with both the end users and suppliers; discussing and negotiating prices, discounts, and delivery protocols.

Providing advice and solutions on procurement support for colleagues giving guidance on suppliers, procurement policies and procedures.

Handling and manoeuvring of chemical solvent deliveries including waste collections, gas cylinder deliveries and delivered goods.

What we need from you:

The ability to undertake a range of practical, technical activities to supply scientific laboratories with necessary instruments and equipment. The role will involve a significant amount of manual handling.
Proven line management experience.
Accuracy, reliability and the adaptability to learn new skills.
A proficient level of IT skills, including MS Office suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and Teams).
Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, organisational, written, and verbal communication skills, including strong customer service skills.
