Summary


Would you like to work in an ethnically diverse, NHS Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team, where training and supervision are a priority?

Due to maternity leave as well as increased interest in the Mainstream School buy-in service, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists to join our well-established service in Redbridge, part of the North East London Foundation Trust. This is a fixed term position for a year, with every possibility of becoming permanent.

Working as part of this team you will provide a service for children presenting with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties within either mainstream schools or Early Intervention clinic and mainstream schools buy-in service.

There will be opportunities to work at universal, targeted and specialist level, including delivery of direct intervention. In our clinic and schools buy in service, we only work with children without EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and are therefore not bound by quantifications. This affords therapists greater independence and increased flexibility to manage and prioritise caseloads based on clinical need

The main responsibilities of the post:

· To contribute to the provision of speech and language therapy clinical care pathways across Redbridge

· To deliver comprehensive formal and informal assessment, and make differential diagnosis on the basis of this assessment

· To develop evidence-based intervention programmes, adapt and facilitate therapy and the use of augmentative communication systems according to client centred needs

· To work closely with clients, carers, families and school staff to embed inclusive speech, language and communication practice both at home and within the classroom

· To contribute to both uni and multi-disciplinary team working to ensure co-ordinated service provision

· To attend relevant training courses, meetings and special interest groups in order to maintain skills and knowledge required of a Speech and Language Therapist working in the field of paediatrics.



Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).



High-Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735)pro rata for part time staff.

Candidates will need to demonstrate the following requirements:



· A recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent and relevant professional registration

· Clinical skills in terms of assessment and therapy for children with speech, language and communication needs

· Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team member.
