Summary


We are excited to be offering the opportunity to join Northumbria Healthcare Speech and Language Therapy, Complex and Additional Needs Team.

We are looking to recruit an innovative, caring and dynamic SLT who would like to further develop their existing skills in speech, language, communication and eating/drinking difficulties, in particular for children with complex needs.

The successful candidate should have knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of communication difficulties and should also have knowledge and skills in supporting families and educational settings to embed communication strategies into their daily practice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for caseload planning and management, providing peer support and supervision to junior members of the team, planning and supporting teaching assistants and Assistant Speech and Language Therapists to provide SLT interventions, evaluating the outcomes and impact of their clinical work and contributing to quality improvement projects and clinical audits.

You will be committed to partnership working with other health professionals and education teams and have excellent communication and prioritisation skills. Knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of eating/drinking and swallowing is desirable but not essential to the role.

The post will involve working with pre-school aged children with complex needs both in their home and in early years mainstream settings and with primary aged children in specialist setting. The post will involve providing assessment and support for these children and planning/delivering interventions to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of families/carers and setting staff to implement and embed communication and/or eating and drinking strategies.

The Complex and Additional Needs Speech and Language Therapy team is a small team who are passionate about supporting people with SEND and their families. We have well established and strong connections with our Health and Local Authority colleagues allowing us to work in partnership at all levels which was highlighted in recent SEND inspection reports.
