The Opportunity

We are looking for a Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our Mechanical Systems Branch as part of our Nuclear Services Business, supporting the delivery of EDFs projects such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC). 

In your role, you will be maintaining technical oversight of the design and supply chain, to ensure the safety case requirements are captured and fulfilled during the design, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning of the plant.

The role sits within the Gas, Radwaste and Handling team, which is responsible for technical oversight and delivery of ~30 equipment contracts across HPC and SZC, along with system ownership of ~36 systems for those stations. For the operational fleet, the team are responsible for the system owenership of gas plant, working closely with station system owners to ensure best possible reliability and performance are achieved

This is an excellent opportunity to develop in depth knowledge on EPR/ AGR/ PWR design and operation, to work in a fast-paced project and oeprational environment.

What you’ll be doing

In your role, you will act as the primary point of contact for the Programme Team, ensuring the design meets safety, construction, and functionality requirements.

You will conduct technical reviews and approve design documentation from designers and equipment suppliers.

You'll also maintain oversight to ensure that safety case requirements are integrated into the design and can be clearly traced throughout the process.

Ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, you'll verify that plants meet design specifications, and you'll provide technical guidance to junior engineers within the team and contribute to managing risks and identifying opportunities.

Developing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including interactions with the ONR, will be crucial.

Lastly, you'll develop and maintain System Substantiation Summary Documents and substantiate Safety Cases for the systems under your responsibility.


Who you are…

You should have a degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, and may have experience working within a project environment, including managing contractual aspects.

You understand Safety Case requirements and how they are applied throughout the project life cycle and you also have knowledge of equipment design and manufacturing processes.

Your communication skills are excellent, allowing you to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.

An understanding of Nuclear Power Station design is essential, and familiarity with PWR or EPR systems would be a bonus.
