We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Specialty doctor to join our well-established and dynamic team of clinicians at the Early intervention in Psychosis service in Croydon.

The post holder will provide clinical input for the team together with the other doctors in the team. There will be a need to screen referrals, contribute to multidisciplinary assessments, and correspond with referrers, colleagues and other involved professionals in assessments and treatment of accepted patients. The post holder will conduct regular psychiatric reviews and contribute to care planning meetings of community patients under the care of the team. There will be a need to support inpatient colleagues when patients are admitted to the wards, write tribunal reports, and attend tribunals as required.
The post holder will be seeing patients on their clinic on a daily basis. The number of patients may vary but will be on average of 20 a week, including new patients, follow ups and emergencies. The rate of tribunals/managers hearings is around 1 every 6 weeks.
There are no on call responsibilities attached to the role.

The post-holder will provide medical input to the service andbe responsible for psychiatric assessment, treatment, planning and review of service users. They will be a member of the multi-disciplinary team and to participate in the delivery and evaluation of treatment for the service users. The post holder will participate in MDT meetings and Care Programme Approach reviews. They will conduct in depth informed clinical interviews, to be able to do mental state assessments, and general physical examination, request and follow up on relevant investigations such as ECG, Bloods and formulate appropriate treatment plans according to the findings, including referrals to general medical services. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that routine physical health checks are performed accordingly to the Early Intervention Standards. They will be actively involved in the prescribing and will undertake Mental Health Act assessments when required. They will liaise with appropriate agencies concerning the treatment and management of service users, including maintaining active correspondence with GPs. The post holder will diagnose clients with an ICD-10 code on acceptance onto the caseload and follow up appointments; and will maintain adequate written documentation of all medical and psychiatric examinations of the patients and to record contacts with relatives and carers. The outcome of such interventions should be recorded. Clear diagnostic and treatment plans should be formulated and recorded, and a comprehensive case workup should be available. Risk assessments should be reviewed and updated as per guidelines. The post holder will also undertake and complete psychiatric reports under supervision for Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers hearings and attending them as needed.They will also provide consultation and advice to members of the MDT and primary care colleagues. The post-holder will participate in service evaluation and information-gathering exercises designed to gain a better understanding of the functioning of the service in order to monitor performance and underpin future service developments. The Trust is committed to continuous learning and Quality Improvement work and the post holder would be expected to actively engage and promote team engagement with changes and improvement work.
