Job Summary

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow (post- CCT) offering exposure to Foot & Ankle surgery from basic to complex including instruction in the management of a wide spectrum of foot and ankle disorders, arthroscopic procedures, minimally invasive procedures, arthrodesis, forefoot
reconstructions, diabetic /Charcot reconstruction, trauma and post- trauma reconstruction.

Duties will include delivering care for patients under the care of the Foot and Ankle Consultants and team, providing support to foundation and core training doctors, surgical scrub practitioner, allied F&A
health professionals and receiving support and training from Consultant staff. This post would be suitable for an individual who has passed the FRCS (Orth) exam, has at least 6 years experience at SPR level in Trauma and Orthopaedics including at least 12 months experience in the subspecialty of foot and ankle surgery. Candidates should be approaching or have recently achieved the CCT.
Possession of full GMC registration is essential. The post will have a fixed-term tenure of 12 months.

Duties of the Post
The post holder will be responsible for:
Assisting consultants in the outpatient clinics (seeing a mixture of new and follow-up patients) and operating theatres and after some training conducting parallel lists with the consultant.

The timetable will include the equivalent of approx.3 clinics and 3 operating lists per week. There will be opportunity for supervised and independent operating commensurate with skills.
Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting and referred to the subspecialty.
Supervising the foundation doctors, core trainees (or junior fellows) and SpRs in the day-today management of Foot and Ankle Elective and emergency orthopaedic inpatients including a multidisciplinary diabetic service.
A weekly session will be scheduled to review the extensive F&A database and help the research nurse with evaluating patient outcomes and producing presentations and publications.
Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
Communication with on-take firms and GPs as appropriate and timely completion of discharge summaries.

This post would be suitable for individuals who are seeking a career as a specialist foot and ankle surgeon, should have at least 6 years experience at SPR level in Trauma and Orthopaedics including at least 12 months experience in the subspecialty of foot and ankle and are approaching or have achieved the CCT.
