Summary


A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - Foetal Medicine Team.

The Maternity Support Worker will work under the direction of the midwife, assisting in the care of women and providing a phlebotomy service for our patients undergoing antenatal screening.

This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic individuals who are willing to undertake training and have an interest in working in the NHS environment. Ideally you will have some knowledge of working within a hospital setting

To obtain blood specimens from antenatal women attending for the 1st trimester ultrasound scan and antenatal screening.

To ensure that the combined or quadruple test form is completed it its entirety once informed consent has been obtained by a midwife or doctor.

To carry out delegated tasks as part of the midwifery team including baseline observations, height and weight.

Direct supervision is not necessary when the maternity care assistant has been deemed competent to carry out particular care activity, but it must be undertaken within the framework of the woman’s plan of care.

The post holder will adhere to Trust policies and work as an integral member of the obstetric ultrasound team in the delivery of high quality care to women and their families. The role of the maternity support worker is to undertake work for which midwifery training and registration are not required (either by statute or by professional guidelines) under the direction and supervision of a midwife. It is for the midwife to decide whether delegating a task is appropriate in the care of a woman and her baby (NMC Circular 1/2004b).
