- Location: Central Milton Keynes with some remote working available.

We have the opportunity for you to join our small team that supports people in the Milton Keynes community who need practical help to manage their finances effectively, reducing their debt problems and the emotional challenges that often accompany these.
We are recruiting another Debt Advisor to work directly with our clients to bring them to become debt-free.
About the role
The post holder will work in a team with three other part-time Debt Advisors and nine volunteer advisers. The role is principally office-based but with a flexible approach to working patterns.

About MK Money Lifeline
Our aim is to enable as many people as possible in the city of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas to understand and manage their finances effectively; reducing debt problems and the emotional challenges such as stress, anxiety and poor mental health often related to those who are in crisis with their money.
MK Money Lifeline is an independent registered charity which has been offering free, confidential and impartial debt advice since 2011. We hold Christian values and enjoy the financial and spiritual support of local churches and their members. We approach our work with our clients with respect and confidentiality and we are committed to providing the best possible support to those experiencing financial difficulties.

Job Purpose:
The role is to work with clients to assist them with their debt or other money problems, including budgeting support, and to agree and implement debt solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage and build rapport with a variety of clients.
- Work with clients to make a thorough analysis of their problems and concerns.
- Help clients to create a strategy to deal with the problems, to which they feel able to commit.
- Signpost or refer clients to any other sources of help or support.
- Support clients as they work through the agreed strategy and encourage them to respond to related correspondence/calls.
- Provide clients with the information and tools to enable them to make sound financial decisions in the future.
- To keep accurate and up-to-date records of client meetings and communications using an online case management system.
- To operate within MK Money Lifeline's Code of Practice, and the policies and procedures of the service, in line with Financial Conduct Authority regulations, and the vision and values of MK Money Lifeline.
- Undertake appropriate training, and keep abreast of current legislation, welfare reforms and local information.
- Host drop-in sessions at outreach locations where appropriate.
- Attend team meetings.
- Supervise volunteer advisers and participate in their training.
- Undertake the administrative tasks related to client casework aligning with the office processes.
Essential Qualifications
- Must commit to work towards the CMA Level 3 Award in Generalist Debt Advice and Level 4 Award in Casework/Specialist Debt Advice.
Essential Competencies and Skills
- Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to and work confidently and sensitively with a wide range of people, including vulnerable clients. Ability to liaise assertively with creditors.
- Good communication skills both verbal and written.
- Willing to learn new skills.
- A methodical approach to the role with attention to detail.
- Be honest and act with integrity.
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Office 365 suite of applications.
- Competent in using web-based applications.
- A reasonable level of numeracy and literacy.
- Ability to stay objective and avoid becoming personally involved in client casework.
- Ability to be self-motivated and to work to a high standard with minimal supervision, with flexibility and as a member of a team. Able to work on own either in the office or remotely at a drop-in venue.
- Be able to travel to different locations.
