Smartbox operates out of offices in Great Malvern and Bristol in the UK, and in Pittsburgh in the USA. The wider Smartbox Group includes subsidiary companies in Germany (Rehavista) and the US (Talk to Me Technologies). In total we are a team of around 500 people.
We are looking for a Finance Manager to join our team, this is a new position to support the Finance Director and develop the current team to help them reach their full potential.

The role will involve a variety of financial and management duties.
Duties will include:
• Develop and deliver an annual finance work plan which aligns with reporting and business requirements
• Develop relevant policies and procedures, and develop tools, guidance, and training for budget holders
• Identify and implement system and process improvements (efficient, resilient and robust)
• Improve the month-end reporting process including balance sheet reconciliations
• Identify and improve weakness controls to maintain the accuracy of the P&L and Balance Sheet
• Preparation of annual budgets and future business planning, including liaison with budget holders and business analytics
• Develop a robust budget monitoring timetable and core processes, to ensure regular review of performance with budget holders
• Hold regular meetings with budget holders acting as a business partner to support financial management
• Prepare monthly management information, budget and cash flow forecasts, and other reports and KPIs
• Develop and deliver the annual year-end accounts closedown timetable
• Alongside the Director of Finance, prepare the annual statutory disclosures
• Lead the liaison with external auditors to ensure the year-end audit is delivered to deadlines, including resolving queries promptly and co-ordinating the finance team to provide audit samples as per the agreed timeframes.
• Oversee quarterly VAT returns to meet HMRC deadlines.
• Line manage members of the Finance team, helping team members to identify and develop opportunities to grow their skills and knowledge in line with wider company objectives.
• Managing the team’s well-being, absences, and sickness in line with company policies.
• Approving and monitoring annual leave
• Ensuring all team management is conducted in accordance with the companies policies and procedures
The successful applicant will also be asked to perform other duties on an ad-hoc basis and will need a proactive attitude to this.
Essential skills/attributes
• Qualified or Finalist, preferably ACA/ACCA
• Experience managing a team
• Advanced Excel skills
• Positive, curious and caring, with an eye for detail and a focus on delivery
• Clear and concise communication skills
• People focused with a passion to develop others and grow as a team
Useful skills/attributes
• Experience in MS Dynamics Business Central.
• Manufacturing experience
• Experience of working with entities in the US and EU
• Experience of working in a business with a Research and Development team
Additional Information
• In this role, you will have the flexibility to work between your home and our office locations in Malvern and Bristol. For this role, we require the candidate to work in the Malvern office twice a week as a minimum.
• You will meet and keep in regular contact with other teams in the business.
