Summary

An exciting career opportunity for a new climbing Arboriculturist to work within a small, friendly and crucial essential service as part of the wider Grounds Maintenance department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of looking after the Council trees and green spaces across both South Hams District and West Devon Borough Council.

You will be fully qualified and hold relevant climbing qualifications, with a clean driver’s licence and with some industry experience. You will have a good understanding of current best practice especially British Standard BS 3998-2010- Tree Works, recommendations and the ability to consider the right pruning techniques for individual trees.

The applicant must be hardworking, able to work on their own initiative and within a team. You will have knowledge of all areas of current legislation and best practice in the industry, excellent understanding of climbing equipment, the ability to operate handsaw/chainsaws and mechanical devices, work in all weather conditions, work as a member of the grounds maintenance team when needed, be physically fit to lift heavy objects and have good communications skills.

This role will require a reasonable standard of physical fitness and involves working outdoors in all weathers, at height and in difficult terrain at times

Good communication skills are essential for this role alongside a self-disciplined outlook. The ability to lead by example, strive for best practice, be open, honest and trustworthy are fundamental.

Full PPE and training will be provided as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving a competent workforce. You may be required to work anywhere within South Hams and West Devon but will operate out of our South Hams depots.
