Summary

Professional Provide a high standard of individualised care to mothers and babies in line with evidence based best practice and Trust guidelines and policies. Using evidence-based practice, assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of family-centred care for a defined group of patients. Under direction of the midwife undertake observations on mothers and babies. Use equipment to support the care of transitional care babies (for example: Blood glucose monitoring, warmer cots, NG tubes and tube feeding, saturations monitors, phototherapy units). Communication and relationships Informs, involves and educates the families regarding their babies care and developmental needs. Assists families in developing appropriate skills to become confident in caring for their babies following discharge home. Communicates effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and with outside agencies involved in provision or planning of care. Communicates professionally and effectively with parents and visitors. Education, training and professional development Keeps up to date with local and National issues, Trust Policies and Guidelines To participate in departmental and Trust training programmes. Conversant with Infection Control Policy and can act in accordance with it Can supervise junior colleagues both qualified and unqualified Fully aware of responsibilities in relation to accepting delegated duties and duties which have been delegated to others Aware of Safeguarding/Child Protection procedures and guidelines, acting at all times on the premise that the childs needs are paramount Identifies and pursues own educational and professional development. Participates in an annual Individual Performance Review (Appraisal). Responsibility for financial and physical resources Ensure that equipment is maintained in accordance with Trust policies Maintain own knowledge on how to use and maintain the equipment used and participate in training. Contribute to effective use of financial resources and help achieve cost improvement programmes.
