Job objectives and responsibilities

Implement planned and reactive maintenance of all electrical equipment in the prison. Oversee the onsite team, ensuring high-quality work and adherence to schedules. Maintain strong client relationships and ensure contractual requirements are met through regular quality audits.

Review service performance using the company's maintenance management systems to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Manage capital projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.

Lead and develop staff and prisoners, providing necessary equipment and managing absences. Ensure health and safety policies are followed, preparing and maintaining documentation like risk assessments. Oversee Planned Preventive Maintenance and Helpdesk tasks, maintaining SHE standards. Effective use & maintenance of O&M Manuals and quality procedures.

Liaise with engineers and subcontractors, addressing client concerns proactively. Understand site engineering services and enforce business risk management procedures. Complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time, investigating and reporting on infrastructure issues.

Be available for weekend work, ensuring all tasks are logged in the maintenance management system. Comply with safety, hygiene, and fire regulations, and develop service improvements to add value and reduce costs.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate should possess basic to intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. They should have completed an apprenticeship or hold an equivalent qualification, and possess IOSH or an equivalent certification. Additionally, they should have C&G/BTEC Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering Parts 1, 2, and 3, as well as an NVQ Level 3 in multi-skilled engineering.

The candidate should also have C&G 2079 F Gas or an equivalent qualification, HVAC or gas equivalent certification, and C&G 2391/2 18th edition IEE regulations. They must be accredited to the 18th Edition of the New Wiring Regulations (BS 7671, January 2019 update) issued by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including note-taking, are essential. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and have previous relevant experience in providing electrical maintenance services in a large, complex environment.

Substantial practical experience with a comprehensive knowledge of all building services disciplines, including heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental systems, electrical power and distribution, and public health, is required. The candidate should be a team worker, flexible within contracted hours, and possess a strong team spirit with a ‘can do' attitude.
