Derwentside College’s Engineering Department have developed long-standing partnerships with several leading engineering employers in the North East. As such, we are fortunate enough to be training some of the region’s most talented trainee engineers within our brand new Electrical Installation workshops and testing areas.

As well as experienced Lecturers, we are actively seeking applicants who are industry professionals, be that from an engineering or construction background. Such applicants will be supported to undertake a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (or equivalent/higher) teaching qualification and receive early career support as part of the Department for Education’s Taking Teaching Further Programme. It is an opportunity for industry professionals to undertake a new challenge – supported by high quality training – to make a career change and become a successful FE Teacher, enabling the next generation to benefit from their knowledge, technical expertise, skills, and experience.

What you will do?
Those with previous Lecturing experience will have a track record of excellence in assessing and teaching that will allow you to deliver Electrical Installation to Level 3. For either the Lecturer or Trainee Lecturer roles you yourself will be qualified in Electrical Installation to Level 3 or above and it is expected you will either have or be willing to work towards the AM2 and 18th Edition qualification, as this qualification is a requirement of this role. You will have the industry experience that allows you to contextualise your teaching with specific examples, and you will be able to evidence professional development that gives you currency in the sector.

This is a permanent, full-time post. Regional travel may be required as part of the role; therefore use of your own transport, a current valid driving license and business insurance is essential. The starting salary will depend upon an individual’s level of qualifications and experience.

This post attracts a recruitment and retention premium meaning the salary is up to £41,323 per annum as a result of market conditions.
