Summary

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.
In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based HR Team.

Please note this role has a September start & is temporary until 31.08.2025.

Background to the Post

As part of the Supported Learning department WCG offers a range of courses that have been developed as an important strand in the College’s offer to Post 16 learners from Entry level to Level 2, with a specific focus on young people that are have special educational needs and disabilities. The client group comes from a variety of backgrounds with various barriers to learning and progression.

The young people may demonstrate challenging behaviours and may have a range of issues, which have prevented them from previous educational engagement. They may have a learning difficulty or have an Education Health and Care Plan, may have been excluded from school, or had considerable and lengthy absences from school. The courses are designed to reengage these young people with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and personal and social development, thus supporting these individuals to succeed and enable them to progress onto a positive mainstream course, into employment or an Internship.

The College is committed to the provision of quality education, training and guidance to this group of learners. This innovative programme provides not only personal social development but also team building, employability skills, with options to take English and Maths and a work placement, to suit individual need. The person appointed will report to the Head for Supported Learning and work alongside a small team of staff.

Main Tasks

● Instruct and facilitate learning for students who may have challenging behaviours,
learning difficulties, an Education, Health Care Plan.
● Liaise with Curriculum Leader, Lecturers and Training Coordinators in the delivery
of the programme, including any projects and/or enterprises.
● Plan, prepare and facilitate learning opportunities that take place in the local
community, exploring links to independence and social inclusion accessing
facilities, transport and local services.
● Work directly with students linking feedback and information to the curriculum
team for strategies and progression.
● Work with the team on the preparation and selection of learning materials to
ensure an appropriate range of delivery methods to support learning and
reengagement as well as the development of resources using the VLE Facilitate
learning by the selection of materials and methods appropriate to students’ needs
and course level.
● Contribute to the planning and review of learning programmes to ensure
continuous improvement.
● Review and inform learning/assessment plans and targets for students as
required, working closely with the Curriculum Leader, Training Coordinator and
Lecturers.
● Adopt a holistic approach to instructing this cohort to ensure an environment is
created which facilitates learning without confrontation where the students and
team together agree expected behaviours within the learning environment whether
in or outside the classroom.
● Promote equal opportunities at all times.

ASSESSMENT

● Assess learner’s work during the course, contributing to the
verification/moderation process.
● Work with the team to assess student work.

WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS/TRIPS

● Support in the supervision of visits or trips.

ADMINISTRATION

● Attend course meetings as required.
● Administer appropriate records, including keeping their own record book, sending
absence notes/cause for concern forms to the Training Coordinators, updating the
team with student progress report.
●Take responsibility for specific course delivery ensuring that the resources and
materials are to a level and standard required.

Essential Attainments

● A qualification at Level 3 in a relevant subject.
● PTTLS teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve within the first 12
months of employment.
● Assessor Awards (A1), equivalent, or willingness to work towards and achieve.
● GCSEs A-C in English and Maths or equivalent.
● Recent relevant vocational or commercial experience.
● Experience of working effectively with young people from a variety of
backgrounds with challenging behaviours.
● Experience of working with people with Special Educational Needs and
Disabilities.
