Trading Standards Officer

14 hours per week

£43,109 - £45,700 pro rata / £23.62 - £25.04 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

A permanent part-time opportunity has arisen within the Trading Standards Service for an enthusiastic person to assist in the Council’s delivery of its statutory Trading Standards functions.

The successful applicant will be expected to provide the full range of Trading Standards statutory duties ensuring a fair and safe trading environment is maintained within Orkney, covering diverse areas of work, including consumer and business advice, legal metrology, product safety, animal welfare and fair trading/scams.

The successful applicant should have good knowledge of computer systems as the record keeping and database management systems required in the role are all computer based.

The postholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a defined benefit scheme for which the employer contribution paid is currently 15%. In addition to the salary paid a good flexi scheme and good annual leave is also available.

The minimum qualification required for this role is the Diploma in Trading Standards or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards, or equivalent.

A full and current UK driving licence is required for this post.

This post requires Basic Disclosure Scotland Clearance.
