Summary

Encourage a holistic, non-stigmatizing approach to socially complex women and their families. Work in partnership with other health care professionals and liaise closely with other agencies involved in the provisions of maternity services and seek advice from the Safeguarding Midwives/Team Leader as required. Recognise that the vulnerability factors can be interrelated and that parental factors increase vulnerability to child abuse and neglect. Work closely with social care and safeguarding team in care planning and assessment of women and families. Work closely with Early Help agencies and ensure that women and families are linked into additional support at the earliest opportunity. Contribute to pre-birth assessments and case conference ensuring effective sharing of information. Work closely with the Community Team Leader, Safeguarding Midwives, Womans Lead Consultant Obstetrician, and Consultant Midwife for Safeguarding and Public Health. Attend the monthly internal Psychosocial/ safeguarding meetings to give and receive updates on cases. Attend case conferences, core group meetings and any other meetings required for the case-load. Ensure that robust pre-birth/discharge planning and plan is in place prior to birth in conjunction with the Safeguarding Team. Ensure robust information sharing and care planning with primary care teams. Attend Postnatal Discharge planning meetings on the postnatal ward for any cases with social care involvement.
