JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-Time Personal Assistant




A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 7-year-old boy living in Barry with my family. I attend mainstream school with full-time one to one support. I am verbal and can express myself but my language is behind my peers. My diagnosis is autism, but I am easy-going, flexible and don’t have a strict routine. My additional needs means I lack awareness of danger. I won’t run off but hypervigilance is needed.

My personality is playful and cheeky, I love slapstick comedies and jokes and reading books and food magazines. I love exploring supermarkets and IKEA both in person and watching their videos on YouTube. I love water, swimming, surfing lessons and have recently learnt to ride a scooter so I take it to the beach and park with me.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to assist me to expand my experiences and confidence. I want my Personal Assistant to participate in physical activities with me.

HOURS OF WORK

4 hours per week

Ideal days are a Wednesday 3pm – 7pm, or Sunday 10am – 2pm.

Flexibility is needed should I want to do 2 hours one week and 6 hours the next week.

RATES OF PAY

£13.50 per hour

40p mileage when you use your car

TASKS WILL INCLUDE

· Taking me to places of my choice such as swimming at Cardiff International Pool or to the beach

· Participating in and suggesting other physical activities

· Going to a local park to ride my scooter

· Ensuring my safety and well-being at all times, being hyper vigilant

· Interacting with me during activities

· Helping me develop my interpersonal skills

· Being a mentor to me

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

· An outgoing, energetic and bubbly person is important

· Someone I can have fun with

· Experience working with children with additional needs

· You must be flexible with your time being able to accommodate the shifts of my preference

· A car owner/driver who is willing to use car for work purposes/take me on outings

ABOUT THE JOB

Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a 4 weekly basis and appropriate holiday pay given (5.6 weeks pro rata).

The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check at no cost to you. You will have to supply 2 references, one of which should be able to comment on your work practices.
