Summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our Financial Services section for an Assistant Accountant, based at our central headquarters in Sheffield.

The overall purpose of the role is to support the team in proactively contributing towards the efficient and effective delivery of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s strategic objectives and priorities. The main element of the role is to be responsible for the preparation and monitoring of cashflows and treasury management, accounting for fixed assets and capital spend, producing working papers to support the monthly financial reporting and statutory accounts and auditors.

The successful candidate will join an established team which consists of Accountancy, Financial Systems, Payments and Revenues and Payroll and Pensions. To be considered for this role you will have previous experience working within a finance environment and have a good knowledge of financial procedures.

You must be able to self-motivate, plan, prioritise and be qualified at AAT or equivalent.

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.
