The University of Derby Estates Department is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant, innovative, and sustainable campus environment, that supports our passion for delivering world class education and ground breaking research.

Our Building Services teams strive to maintain and enhance the exceptional facilities and services that empower our students and staff to thrive in a safe, welcoming, and inspiring setting for our community.

The maintenance team is responsible for looking after the buildings, sites and systems, through planned and reactive maintenance which is scheduled and provided by our team of skilled professionals.

About the role

Reporting into the Mechanical & Electrical Senior Supervisor, you will bring your experience to assist the team in delivering a first class customer orientated installation, repair and maintenance service to the University’s portfolio of buildings, including teaching, administration, workshops, residential and other accommodation, owned, leased or rented by the University.

This will involve carrying out a wide range of reactive plumbing works to University sites and premises in accordance with the appropriate regulations and standards. Supervising the work of the Maintenance Assistants, you will maintain a safe working environment for all of our staff, students and visitors.

Upon completion of your probation period, you will be required to take part in the On-call Rota; being on call 24/7 for 1 week in 4. Call out payments will be paid in line with the relevant rate of pay for the call out period required.

This role is based at the University's Kedleston Road campus, however travel between sites, including Buxton and Leek campus, in the works van will be expected.

The work pattern for this role will be 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday, with flexibility required at times to ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained.

About You

You will be expected to have a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in a Plumbing Trade or Level 2 with proven commercial & domestic experience and willing to train to level 3. All trade specific and statutory training will be provided. You will also be provided with a uniform and the required tools for the jobs you undertake.
