Summary

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chef in planning, preparing, and serving daily meals for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Step in for the Chef when needed, with support from the Catering Supervisor.
  • Support the lunchtime meal service for a local Primary school.
  • Prepare and cook meals in line with food safety regulations and ensure proper use of kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with catering at special events and functions, including some work outside normal hours (e.g., Parents’ Evenings).
  • Help build and promote the food brand, aiming to sustain interest and increase sales.
  • Operate the cashless till system and produce cost/sales reports as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and health & safety in the kitchen.

Elmhurst Ballet School, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham, is closely associated with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Its facilities include a 220-seat theatre, seven dance studios, academic classrooms, and boarding accommodations for up to 169 students​. Holroyd Howe are proud to exclusively caterer their award-winning Bistro, where students can savor three delectable, well-balanced meals daily to enhance their enhance your energy and wellbeing.

While we are open 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, most shifts are Monday to Friday, offering a well-structured schedule. Some evenings and weekends will be required, but the role provides excellent work-life balance, allowing you the flexibility to pursue personal projects outside of work. Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a catering or kitchen environment, ideally within a school or hospitality setting.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations (Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate preferred).
  • Ability to assist in meal planning, preparation, and service, ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Proven ability to deputise for the Chef Manager when required, demonstrating leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with cashless till systems and basic financial reporting.
  • Creative and proactive in recommending service improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, ensuring safe food storage, handling, and preparation.
