Summary


1. To lead the Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) Screening service and establish an infrastructure that will deliver a level of service which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC).



2. To work closely with the clinical governance team and participate in investigations of antenatal and newborn screening incidents and share learning from incidents and changes in practice with staff.



3. To operate and monitor all failsafe system to identify, as early as possible, mothers and babies that may have missed or where screening results are incomplete.



4. To liaise with NHS England (NHSE) and Quality Assurance (QA) and participate fully in national Quality Assurance processes, co-operate in undertaking ad-hoc audits and reviews as requested by QA teams and respond in a timely manner to their recommendations.



5. Work collaboratively with the education lead to ensure that health professionals involved in antenatal and newborn screening keep up to date with nationally approved training programmes, maintain professional registration where appropriate and comply with safeguarding requirements.



6. Lead on the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) screening programme.

To ensure a high quality antenatal and newborn screening service is provided for women and families within the resources available by developing, reviewing and implementing programmes in line with national evidence/recommendations.



To lead the antenatal and newborn screening and counselling service at North Middlesex University Hospital and establish an infrastructure that will deliver a level of service which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC).









The North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust serves the boroughs of Enfield, Haringey and also draws patients from Barnet and Waltham Forest and beyond, this is a catchment area of around one million residents and covers a highly diverse population with affluent wards as well as areas of complex deprivation and serious health need.

1. Provide and support the antenatal and newborn screening at a service based level within the maternity service.



2. To act as a Specialist Midwife in the field of antenatal and newborn screening and diagnosis.



3. To provide advice and assistance for health care professionals in the care of clients undergoing screening.



4. Provide expert advice, guidance and support to all health professionals involved in antenatal and newborn screening programmes and be conversant with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee.



5. Work with midwifery and neonatal unit managers to ensure that there is a consistent approach to antenatal and newborn screening in all clinical areas and the community setting



6. Provide expert advice on antenatal and newborn screening to women and their families offering support, guidance and counselling as required.



7. Maintain and develop midwifery skills by keeping abreast with current research, best practices.

8. Have direct responsibility for overseeing the programme at local level and counselling women
