Summary
The post holder will support various aspects of this busy service, with a commitment to an out of hours rota. The post holder will attend clinics, theatre sessions and ward rounds as per allocation in a weekly firm timetable. In addition, there is a local departmental teaching programme which you would be expected to attend and contribute to. Although this is not a training post it should be possible for an enthusiastic doctor to map their experiences to many of the core curriculum programme competences as all aspects of the syllabus are relevant to this attachment. We encourage our doctors to involve themselves in audit and research. You would be expected to make yourself familiar with the processes of the audit cycle and to assess the role of audit in clinical governance and in improving patient care. Supervision for projects will be available, and support may also be available from hospital audit departments. Post holders can expect to; Build upon post graduate clinical experience Master a number of procedural techniques Further develop experience and expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient Further develop experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission Hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues Increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available Develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities
