Summary
The Appointee will be expected, in conjunction with his / her colleagues, to provide a comprehensive Ophthalmic service supporting the provision of an effective countywide service and contribute towards achieving the 18 week wait across the whole eye department. In addition to the advertised role the appointee will be expected help in the delivery of high volume cataract surgery and ensure the Trust meets its contractual obligations. The appointee will take part in the consultant on-call rota for emergency duties and provide, on a reciprocal basis, emergency cover for colleagues during periods of absence. The appointee will have continuing responsibility for patients in his/her care and for the proper functioning of the department. The appointee will be involved in the delivery of undergraduate teaching to the students from Lincoln Medical School and in the teaching of ophthalmic trainee staff and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme. The appointee will regularly attend Clinical Audit, Governance and Departmental meetings and will be required to play an active part in the robust clinical audit programme. The appointee will be required to report all critical incidents. The appointee will be encouraged to participate in management duties within the Department and the organisation. The appointee will be mentored by a senior consultant for the first 6 months of the post.
