Summary
Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trainee Repointing Operative. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is eager to learn and develop valuable skills within housing maintenance and domestic retrofit.
Mortar holds bricks, stones and blocks together, so it is essential for maintaining your home’s structure, as well as defending against water and damp. If it’s allowed to weaken and get worn down, then the integrity of your home could be at risk.
Repointing is the process of removing and replacing this mortar. It’s a way of fixing any damage and wear and tear on your property as well as improving the look of your home. It’s especially good for older homes, where new mortar can be used to reduce damp and improve the durability of the walls for all weather conditions.
As a Trainee Repointing Operative, you will work alongside experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to the successful completion of projects
This role will involve:
The removal of old mortar (raking out) using the correct power tools and equipment.
Preparing the area - covering the ground and removing any moss/plants.
Spraying the walls with water to strop the mortar from drying out too quickly and cracking.
Preparing the mortar so it matches the existing colour and is the correct strength.
Applying new mortar into gaps, taking special care to fill gaps and any air pockets.
Removing excess mortar with a wire brush and smoothing out to achieve high finishes.
Learning about the different types of pointing style and how to achieve this finish.
Adhering to all health and safety regulations of the site you are working on.
Working around people in their homes.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Ability to perform manual labour.
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn and follow instructions.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Knowledge of construction tools and equipment is a plus.
