Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated optometrist to join our team at Western Eye Hospital, a part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as a hospital optometrist. Recent developments have created an opportunity for us to grow our optometry department and expand our services. We are looking for an individual with the relevant experience to work alongside our team in a variety of clinics.



The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from our award-winning ophthalmology team as well as using their knowledge and skills to help train other health professionals. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, consisting of consultants, trainee doctors, nurses, optometrists and orthoptists. The role will primarily the following services; pre/post op cataract, glaucoma, glaucoma monitoring



This post is open to optometrists with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience. A diploma in Independent Prescribing is essential as well as a minimum of a Higher certificate in glaucoma and/or prior experience working in pre/post cataract clinics. The role is being advertised as a full time working role, however for the right candidates we would also accept a job share (minimum 2 days). Please see JD for essential requirements for the post.



It is a substantive contract, working in 10 fixed clinical sessions, 37.5 hours per week. The applicant could be employed to work at The Western Eye Hospital, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5YE or Charing Cross Hospital, Fulham Palace Road, London W6.
• Provide specialist examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients who present to one stop cataract clinics. Provide individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, without supervision, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team, in line with local and national targets and protocols.
• The Optometrist will provide specialist care to the cataract service and support. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
• To examine patients who have been referred for cataract surgery, and assess whether or not the cataract is the reason for the vision reduction. Where there are other ocular co-morbidities, referring the patient to the appropriate specialty within the necessary timeframe.
• Examine patients and decide whether or not cataract surgery is indicated.
• Assess all patients and make appropriate clinical decisions as to the complexity of the surgery, and list the patients accordingly.
