Summary

Salary: Band 8, £31,725 to £34,885 per annum; this is pro-rata for Term Time Only (the full-time equivalent is £33,945 to £36,647).

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time (37 hours per week), Term Time Only (42 working weeks including 15 days during school holidays)

The Service:

The Portage team based at the Civic Offices are an integral part of the Inclusion Service. The Inclusion Service delivers a range of support services that aim to remove the barriers to achievement for all Portsmouth children and young people, in particular those with special educational needs or from vulnerable groups.

Your New Role:

You will assist the team leader in planning, delivery and evaluation of the Portage service, supporting the wellbeing and motivation of the team. You will deliver Portage and Portage Plus to a small caseload of five families, carrying out developmental assessments and identifying goals for learning. You will provide resources, materials and equipment to deliver individualised educational activities in partnership with the parents, carers and settings. You will maintain records, contribute to multi-agency meetings, and act as advocate for parents and carers. You will co-develop and deliver training, mentor Portage Home Visitors, and lead on team sessions to support continuous professional development.

What you'll need to succeed:

You are an experienced early years practitioner with substantial experience as a Portage home visitor, ready to take the next step in your career. You can demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the principles of Portage and the application for children 0-5 years with a range of needs, and the educational, developmental and health needs of children with SEND. You understand current pedagogy and early interventions used for children and families, the support needs of families and parents, and safeguarding and child protection policy and practice. You have a minimum early year’s qualification of at least NVQ3 in Early Years or Education or other relevant qualifications with an underpinning knowledge of child development. You have experience of working directly with pre-school children who have special/additional needs or developmental delay, and substantial experience as a Portage home visitor. You have experience of working in partnership with families and early years settings, and evidence of completion of the Portage Workshop.
