KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Ward Based Activities1. To support the Clinical Pharmacists by participating in the provision of a high quality, professional and effective medicine management service within the clinical directorates. 2. To participate in the full programme of validated checking and training schemes in accordance with agreed protocols. 3. Liaise with ward and pharmacy staff to resolve any technical queries or problems with the patients, refers clinical queries to the pharmacist for resolution. 4. To participate in ward-based audit schemes or other forms of research and development. 5. To participate in the controlled drug retrieval of patients own medication and expired or unused ward stock from wards and daycase areas. To check CD register balances and balance transfers to new CD registers. To help support the quarterly CD audits. 6. To work closely with the specialist clinical pharmacists to promote the safe and cost-effective use of medicines, including high-cost drugs, in order to optimise patient care, reduce waste, promote adherence to clinical guidelines and support effective medicines management and optimisation. 7. To monitor the use of medicines on the oncology and haematology wards in order to facilitate the review and amendment of stock-lists to ensure appropriate and cost-efficient stockholding, in liaison with the specialist pharmacists and ward staff. 8. To assist the specialist clinical pharmacists in implementing, and appropriate monitoring, of medicines cost-containment strategies within cancer services. 9. To support the pharmacy finance team to ensure adherence to patient access schemes in oncology and haematology, where appropriate. 10. To be involved in the training of new clinical pharmacy ward staff and the revalidation process of existing MMTs. 11. To perform drug histories for CAR-T patients in clinic prior to commencing treatment. Pharmacy Satellites/Dispensaries12. To undertake a regular operational commitment (approximately 2 hours per week) in order to maintain competencies and demonstrate fitness to practice as a registered pharmacy technician. This is to include dispensing (including controlled drugs and cytotoxic drugs), accuracy checking (including controlled drugs and oral cytotoxic) and utilisation of the pharmacy computer system. 13. To be involved in the training of Technical and ATO staff in the satellite/dispensaries. This may include undertaking competency assessments for: all new starters, trainee accuracy checkers and current accuracy checkers, ensuring that new staff inductions are carried out promptly and signed off for forwarding to the training team. This will be carried out during your allocated dispensary slots. 14. To participate in the NVQ training and assessment process of Student Technicians within the satellite/ dispensaries. This will be carried out during your allocated dispensary slots. 15. To assist in the management of the day-to-day stock holding in the satellite/ dispensaries, ensuring procedures are followed to maintain accurate stock balance; and identify, investigating and reconciling stock discrepancies in a timely manner. This will be carried out during your allocated dispensary slots. 16. To utilise the Pharmacy IT systems as required by ICT to facilitate stock control and patient information. This will be carried out during your allocated dispensary slots. Other Duties1. To take line management responsibility for designated staff. 2. To participate in rostered flexible shift working including evening, weekend and bank holiday arrangements in line with service commitments. The pharmacy department operates a 7-day shifted working model which will include weekends and Bank Holidays.
