Do you love maths and numbers? Does data and the stories it tells excite you? Do you enjoy solving puzzles and problems?

We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of society’s most vulnerable people.

If you’d like to start a career in data science and become part of one of the biggest and high-profile digital transformation programmes in the world, this could be the opportunity you’re looking for.

As a Data Scientist apprentice, you will earn as you learn whilst getting valuable hands-on experience of selecting and developing new data science techniques for solving complex business problems.

By the end of the three-year apprenticeship, you will have achieved an industry-standard degree qualification and have developed crucial skills, knowledge and behaviours to progress your career, all while being part of a great team delivering digital applications and services.

This is not just an opportunity for someone starting out in the world of work – there are no age restrictions, so this is a perfect opportunity to change career. All you need is aptitude, commitment and enthusiasm.

The apprenticeship programme is scheduled to start in March 2025.

Joining DWP Digital, you’ll be part of a diverse, vibrant community where you’ll help deliver data led solutions all while studying towards a BSc degree in Data Science.

You’ll develop specialist skills to power business performance including big data, machine learning, and how to apply advanced data analytics and AI to turn complex data sets into predictive, strategic insights.

As well as being given 20% off the job time to allow you to complete your apprenticeship within working hours, you’ll be supported by your line manager, skills coach and DWP Digital’s data community, as well as fellow apprentices on the programme - you will have plenty of sources of encouragement to help you succeed.

Studying for a degree whilst balancing work and personal commitments will require perseverance and the ability to juggle tasks and priorities. There’s a lot to learn and do, so you need to be proactive, organised, and hard working.

At DWP, you can build a stimulating and fulfilling career full of interesting problems to solve and with plenty of opportunities to grow.
