Are you passionate about protecting and enhancing the environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Regulated Industry department.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and professional person to join our Installations (South) Team within the Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area. As a Regulatory Officer, Installations you will be at the forefront of protecting people and the environment from harm and securing environmental improvements.

You will be responsible for the regulation of activities that come under the Environmental Permitting Regulations, undertaking inspections at a range of industrial sites. We are particularly looking for people with industrial or regulatory experience of the chemical, landfill and food & drink sectors but the team also regulates sites in the biowaste, cement, COMAH, and hazardous waste treatment sectors.

To achieve our aims, it is important that we work closely with other local and national teams, companies, communities, and our partner organisations.

Your work will involve:
• Ensuring permit compliance, making complex assessments of operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
• Analysis and interpretation of environmental monitoring and performance data.
• Using your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure best practice.
• Responding to environmental incidents, dealing with complaints and queries from members of the public about the sites we regulate.

Based in Kettering, Nene House or Peterborough, Quay House.

Some work from home / hybrid working.

Travel to sites across Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area
The team
The post will be in our Installations Team (South) based in Kettering or Peterborough.

The team works flexibly, delivering regulation at industrial process sites including the food and drink, chemical manufacturing, metals, biowaste, landfill, waste treatment and energy from waste sectors within the Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire Area.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional person to join the team with a focus on the chemical, landfill, and food & drink sectors.
Experience/skills required
You’ll be a proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver outcomes, with strong interpersonal skills, well-developed technical expertise and regulatory experience within an industrial environment.

You'll preferably have: -

• Significant regulatory/industrial experience in the chemical, landfill or food & drink sectors.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrable technical leadership.
• The ability to make decisions and solve complex technical problems.
• The ability to manage multiple demands and deliver outcomes independently.
• A proven record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach. Adapting to new ways of working.
• Thorough knowledge of health, safety & wellbeing with a positive, proactive approach to it.
• Able to work in teams to achieve common goals.
• A degree/equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline or comparable technical knowledge and experience.

Member of IChemE, IEMA, CIWM or similar preferable but not essential.
