Summary

It is essential that the jobholder holds a minimum level 2 childcare qualification recognised by Ofsted but it is desirable that they are working towards a relevant level 3 qualification, NNEB, CACHE, BTEC and NVQ level 3. Experience The jobholder must have experience: of working in a childcare setting observing and recording childrens developmental milestones they must have the ability to support the Early Years Foundation Stage to meet childrens individual needs. of working in partnership with parents/carers. 6. CORE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING The jobholder will: will have sound knowledge of child development from birth 5 years will have some knowledge of working towards Ofsted Welfare Requirements and Ofsted inspections will have knowledge and skills in planning and recording childrens progress relating development to The Early Years Foundation Stage. will have knowledge of the DFES code of practice will have good communication skills and knowledge to develop partnerships with parents 9. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY The jobholder will: to contribute in updating records of achievements ie: profiles, observations, care plans, to support the individual needs of the children/families. assist the management team ie: Deputy and Early Years Professional to develop, implement and evaluate play and planning using the EYFS for the individual child and family to support the nursery team and management team in the delivery of the service and the development of quality care as a key carer the jobholder will assist in the settling in programme to meet the childs/familys individual needs including first contact with the parent /carer to assist the nursery team when discussing nursery routines and procedures with new parents As part of the nursery team your role will include observing, collating, presenting and recording developmental milestones for childrens individual profiles ensure each family receives daily positive feedback report concerns or family issues to appropriate manager support a variety of communication channels for parents which promote partnership assist in maintaining a positive and proactive culture to support children whose progress, development or well being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances ensuring staff know when to inform colleagues for specialist support. assist in maintaining a culture of listening to children, paying attention to what they say whilst valuing and respecting their views from birth to the end of the foundation stage. Use quality interaction by talking to the children, giving constructive and sensitive feedback and helping children understand what they have achieved and what they need to do next. plan and prepare for consultation evenings with team and parents/carers assist the nursery team in the monitoring of daily routines and standards to meet Ofsted Welfare Requirements support the nursery team to ensure play plans reflect the childs individual needs following the Early Years Foundation Stage, highlighting the childs next step take an active part in staff, team and room meetings organised by the management team to ensure a consistent quality approach throughout the nursery This list of duties is not intended to be exhaustive but indicates the main areas of work and may be subject to change after consultation with the post holder to meet the changing needs of the service. Health and Safety/Risk Management All staff are responsible for working with their colleagues to maintain and improve the quality of services provided to our patients and other service users. This includes complying at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Policies, including Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures, and reporting incidents using the Trust Incident Reporting system. Infection Control The jobholder must comply at all times with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Infection Control policies, in particular by practising Universal Infection Control Precautions. Hand hygiene must be performed before and after contact with patients and their environment. To work with Nursery Managers to ensure that the childcare strategy fulfils two purposes, it improves the working lifes of staff and as a direct consequence improves the quality and accessibility of services for patients Respond to customer/client complaints ensuring that the complaints procedure is adhered to at all times, utilising such complaints to proactively review and improve the quality of the service Provide opportunities for parent/carers/children/young people to actively participate in the reviewing and strategic development of childcare/carers support service. Training and Personal Development Continuous Professional Development The jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role. Respect for Patient Confidentiality The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
