Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic Dentist to join our Special Care Dental Service in Suffolk.

We have a fixed term, part time post available for 3 days per week for 12 months. The successful applicant will be based in our newly equipped multi-surgery clinic in Ipswich. Salary point Dependent on experience

We are very proud of the services we provide to our patients and this role is vital to support safe and compassionate care .

The successful candidate will provide dental care to special care patients, supported by our team of dental healthcare professionals, by the service leads and by specialists in special care and paediatric dentistry.

This exciting and varied role will include care on a domiciliary basis, care under inhalation sedation and participation in epidemiological fieldwork.

We are an IASCD accredited sedation training provider and full training will be given for all aspects of this role; experience of special care is not essential.

The post will be based in Suffolk and work may need to be undertaken at other establishments where Dental HealthCare operates in the surrounding area

Dental HealthCare aims to deliver high quality dental care in a patient centred environment and dental public health work within the community. It was formed from a merger between the longstanding Community Dental Service and the more recently established Dental Access Centre and consequently has different work streams and eligibility criteria.

The post holder will ensure that patients unable to cope with routine dental treatment due to their disabilities are assessed and able to access treatment service either by using behavioural techniques, sedation and/or general anaesthesia, if appropriate.

Domiciliary care is provided on a referral basis

There may be a need to undertake routine dental access work as part of this role.

A computerised software system (Software of excellence) is used to collect and manage patient information.

To provide a full range of dental care to patients of the Dental HealthCare Suffolk Special care Dental Service. This includes priority and vulnerable and groups meeting special care service criteria, and children and adults with moderate-severe anxiety.

Main Duties and Responsibilities.

Clinical
1. Undertakes thorough examination and assessment of patient.
2. Plans and manages care for a range of patients. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates programmes to prevent disease and promote health in target groups within the population.
3. Can identify commonly occurring medical emergencies and lead the dental team in the appropriate first line management of the emergency, using appropriate techniques, equipment and drugs. Keeps up to date with developments in this area.
4. Uses appropriate local anaesthetic and patient management approaches to control pain and anxiety during dental treatment.
5. Undertakes the diagnosis, selection of appropriate periodontal techniques and delivery of periodontal care in an effective way
6. Routine exodontias and/or simple surgical exodontias.
7. Undertakes appropriate investigations during the patient examination to determine the need for specialist advice.
8. Undertakes the diagnosis, selection of appropriate restorative technique and delivery of restoration or replacement of teeth in an effective way.

Communication
1. Communicates with a range of patients, and their families, on complex clinical issues.
2. Communicates with the clinical team and peers in an appropriate manner.
3. Communicates with other health and social care professionals involved in the care of patients.
4. Contribute to CCS’ internal communication strategies ensuring effective two-way communication and engagement within the organisation
5. Contribute to CCS’ external communication strategies working with the Head of Communications to raise awareness and promote the reputation of CCS’ services

Patient and Public Engagement

To contribute to ensuring that CCS responsibilities to engage and consult with patients and the public are met in line with statutory requirements

People Management

• Responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff within the clinic.
• Enable staff to develop with the changing needs of the dental services.
• Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and job planning.

Clinical and Practice Governance
1. Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
2. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to CCS Information Governance and Information Security policies.
3. The post holder must adhere to CCS risk assessment and risk management processes
4. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures
5. It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with GDC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
6. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services, (CCS).
7. The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required
8. Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the service and ensure the service has mechanisms to capture the patient experience.
9. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
