Job Purpose
Reporting directly into the Grounds Manager the post holder will form part of the grounds maintenance team responsible for achieving high standards of service to the Armada Project site situated in HMS Drake & Thanckes Tanks Torpoint in the Southwest of England.
The primary tasks relating to this role are to perform Grounds Maintenance during the Summer and Winter months. The standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week with overtime available.
The ideal candidate will live within a reasonable travelling distance from our offices in Plymouth.
An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the role.
Responsibilities
-Maintenance duties are to include both mechanical and manual operations and will cover the broad spectrum of grounds maintenance both in the Summer and Winter months. Duties will include but are not limited to watering, grass cutting, planting trees/shrubs, bed preparation, Hedge cutting, seasonal bedding, pruning, road/car park/pathway gritting/snow clearance.
-Monitor the use of consumable items and spares and plan for their replenishment.
-Ensure vehicles and equipment used by self and work group are regularly maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements and advise on repair or replacement of faulty equipment.
-Undertake weed and moss control around the site as required.
-Empty litter bins on the site in accordance with appropriate schedules.
-The safe use of ride on mowers, tractors, and grounds maintenance machinery, including hand tools and light machinery and use of cylinder and rotary mowers, strimmer's, hedge cutters and leaf blowers/collectors. training will be given.
-To carry out gritting and snow clearing duties of road and pavements on site to meet the set contractual standards.
-To carry out daily/routine checks on equipment and machinery to British Standards.
-Responsibility for the Health and Safety of themselves, their work colleagues and others who may be affected by their activities, working in accordance with the Companies safety procedures.
-Ensure your work area and grounds maintenance yard is kept clean, tidy, and secure always.
-To liaise with management on the day to day running of the ground maintenance activities including the reporting of issues relating to operation and appearance.
-To make the Grounds Manager aware of any problems/faults identified whilst carrying out duties.
-To perform any other duties which might be specified from time to time by the Grounds Manager.
-To be aware of business continuity processes via Line Manager
-We do some work in Schools and Nurseries & a fuel depot.
Knowledge Skills & Experience
-Grounds maintenance experience. Preferred but not essential as training will be given.
-Working to good horticultural practice.
-Previous experience in a customer facing environment. Preferred but not essential.
-Physical / Dexterity.
-Manual Handling ability.
-Good Communication skills.
-Must be able to use/handle tools.
-Full UK driving licence Essential.
