Summary

About the Employer

I am the employer and mother to my daughter who has been allocated a direct payment to enable her to access social activities within the community with the support of a PA. My daughter has a diagnosis of Autism, Epilepsy, learning disabilities and has limited speech. She can communicate through single words and small phrases. However this is on her own terms, She is also able to communicate what she wants through hand over hand, gestures and facial expressions. My daughter wears nappies and will require support and prompt personal care. My daughter has limited communication or danger awareness which makes her extremely vulnerable, she will need someone who will be able to always supervise her and provide activities that offer stimulation. My daughter has a lovely nature, she is extremely sociable and has a friendly personality and great sense of humour. She enjoys the company of adults and 1-1 attention and is very affectionate, enjoying giving and getting hugs and very tactile with others. She loves activities, being outdoors, going to the beach and parks. She enjoys swimming and trampoline parks and is very energetic.

I am seeking a PA to support and provide my daughter access to the community with 1-1 supervision. This will allow her time away from home and her sibling. It would offer my daughter the opportunity to access social activities to help her build her confidence and enjoy new experiences as well as extending her support network The PA support will also allow me a break from my caring role as well as enabling me to spend some time with her brother. The successful personal assistant will be required to support my daughter in accessing the community, engaging in new activities and experiences wherever possible. They should be outgoing, friendly, patient, enthusiastic and energetic, which will support in developing her social skills and help build her independence and confidence. The role is to befriend and offer companionship to my daughter with a view to extending her support network and life skills.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
• Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
• Promote and encourage friendships and independence.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Transport Requirement:

Car driver and car owner – must have business insurance.

Required Skills:

• Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
• To be able to work on own initiative.
• Be patient, supportive and caring.
• Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.

• Previous experience in childcare/special needs is essential.
• Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.
• Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
• Have a lively personality.

Required Training:

Successful candidates are required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to the role.

• Epilepsy. Training will be provided by the employer.

Hours per week: 4 hrs per week (1 or 2 sessions) Days and times can be agreed and confirmed week on week between employer and employee
