The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.
The role includes working within local and national guidelines that enables individuals to provide safe and excellent care to our service users. There will be training and development opportunities for post holders who wish to progress within this career.
The post holder will proactively, consistently and meaningfully demonstrates the Trust values in their day to day interactions with colleagues and service users.
The MSW will work alongside Midwives and other health professionals in the provision of safe and excellent care to women and their babies. The MSW will receive relevant training and once deemed competent to do so, will have an array of skills to support midwives, some of the skills are listed below:
Ensuring the clinical areas are stocked, clean and ready for use, ensuring equipment is safe and PATtested, clinical observations of mother and baby, venepuncture and cannulation, feeding support including breast and bottle, diabetes care, promotion of health education, emergency care including new born life support among many other skills/duties.
The MSW will work on a rotational basis gaining clinical competence around the maternity unit enabling them to become multi skilled and high functioning MSWs.
There is an opportunity to undertake the MSW apprenticeship through Dynamic.
