Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months

The purpose of the role is to provide administrative and customer service support needed to help the core Development Management Team and Enforcement Team work effectively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Help people applying for planning permission and their agents through the planning process, including giving basic information about planning, the planning process, planning enforcement, writing letters about planning requirements and researching planning histories and appropriate legislation.
Help planners and enforcement planners to receive and validate new planning applications, cases and other work, including downloading or scanning application forms, plans, drawings and other information, taking fees, plotting sites, closing cases and returning unregistered applications and fees.
Help carry out any monitoring, research or investigation needed to support planning decisions and enforcement investigations, including planning histories, local land charge planning information and helping people making personal searches, working to deadlines as required.
Help businesses in Stoke-on-Trent to develop and grow by giving practical advice about planning and other Council services and putting businesses in touch with others who can help.
Generate letters and reports, including letters asking for information, decision letters, enforcement letters, consultation reports and formal notices and to do this within legal deadlines.
Record technical minutes of planning meetings and monitor actions.
Display, replace and remove planning application site notices throughout the city.
Help prepare for Development Management Committee meetings, including putting together and distributing reports and other information and putting together professional presentations to meetings.
Help prepare for internal planning application assessment panels and give support in those panels, including producing planner’s reports, notices and other documentation.
Help check whether people given planning permission meet planning conditions and whether development fits the planning approval, consent or obligations.
Support the processing of FOI and Cllr enquiries including the collection and presentation of information/data.



Qualifications:

5 GCSE’s or equivalent including English and Maths.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Demonstrates the knowledge and qualifications needed to carry out a front line, administrative and analytical role.
Demonstrates some knowledge of the planning process and planning law.
Demonstrates a general understanding of the commercial and other motivations, opportunities and constraints affecting businesses generally, developers and their agents.
Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy when collecting, interpreting, recording and storing information.
General understanding of systematic performance management and improvement systems.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite, Adobe Pro).
