CLINICAL Apply knowledge of peer support and acquired expertise that is underpinned by theory, evidence based practice and continued professional development. As an autonomous practitioner, will demonstrate self-management skills and independence in thought and action and take personal responsibility for professional performance e.g. regular lone working and with service-users / students in the community. Identifies and assesses individual learning needs/problems and formulates specific management plans for meeting complex learning needs. Monitors and evaluates the ongoing effectiveness of the Recovery College course plan. Accepts the standards of others without prejudice and regardless of race, religion, politics, socio-economic background and lifestyle. Demonstrates attitudes that ensure the expressed needs and choices of students and carers become the focus of the educational plan. Within an identified area, assumes professional responsibility and accountability to implement peer support across MHCB and demonstrate the unique recovery journey of service-users and the recovery skills of carers and staff. Monitors and evaluates the ongoing effectiveness of the peer support plan through a reflective model demonstrating: - o knowledge to measure and reflect critically on practice o skills in relation to analysis of outcomes. With support from Strategic Lead will develop supervision framework for peer support workforce across MHCB. Delivery of peer support training Education of MHCB staff/teams in relation to embedding peer support workforce To work collaboratively with Co-production Consultant, Recovery College Peer Lead, Recovery College Operational Lead and Head of Lived Experience Workforce to monitor and prioritise requests for Lived Experience input from Mental Health services across Cardiff and Vale. 2. COMMUNICATION Demonstrates effective communication skills when imparting complex information to service users and carers, families, health care professionals and other agencies, e.g. the promotion of health and well-being. Is proactive and contributes to the debate of professional and educational issues. Identifies and minimises interpersonal conflict. Demonstrates IT skills in order to produce reports and set up appropriate spreadsheets and databases. To ensure that any concerns regarding a Service users mental and physical wellbeing is shared with the team in order that a decision to notify the individuals care team is made. To ensure that language used in learning and development activities is recovery focused, motivational and encouraging. To utilise a range of training/facilitating and presentation techniques to keep service users engaged and motivated about learning and adapting styles where there is difficulty in understanding and being sensitive to peoples needs and level of learning/ability to learn. 3. MANAGEMENT Identifies opportunities for improvements in services, practice, products and systems and participates in service development with senior/line manager. Takes an active role within local service, educational and clinical networks. Balances professional issues e.g. confidentiality and duty of care in a multidisciplinary educational setting. To ensure that any handwritten and electronic records are maintained in accordance with UHB policy and Recovery College Charter. To implement, in accordance with UHB guidelines, a system of gathering and analysing statistical information in relation to training activity. 4. QUALITY AND SAFETY Develops a credible and professional contribution to the organisation by engaging in personal development planning and continuing professional development. Shares acquired knowledge and skills through effective use of various teaching techniques, presentation skills and a variety of audio-visual aids MHCB Staff Applies set criteria to recruitment of Peers Contributes to the Directorate Services Quality and Safety arrangements. Participates in the collection and interpretation of statistics in relation to performance reporting. 5. SERVICE DELIVERY AND DEVELOPMENT Working closely with the Lived Experience Lead , the post holder will provide specialist peer input to UHB wide meetings, deliver presentations and consult to all relevant agencies. To assist the Lived Experience Lead in the development, implementation and review of practice, policy and guidelines of the department. To provide specialist peer advice in relation to recovery to all who do business with the UHB. Consult and inform the Peer Lead of any issues that may affect the efficient running of the Lived Experience Programme.To produce and keep up to date all support material for learning initiatives. To be responsible for the effective use of physical resources and supplies including stock, training materials and petty cash. 6. SUPERVISION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT To contribute to undertaking an annual VBA. To plan to the induction of new peers to the MHCB . To support peer worker and student placements as appropriate, ensuring a good learning environment is maintained. Attend regular supervision with Lived Experience Lead 7. BIO-PSYCHOSOCIAL On a daily basis, demonstrates the ability to maintain high levels of concentration, alertness and awareness in unpredictable environments and clinical settings to include lone worker situations in the community. Demonstrates an ability to emotionally adapt and adopt an empathetic approach to distressing circumstances e.g. profound disability, death, bereavement and information from traumatised students. Demonstrates the abilities to deal appropriately with adverse environmental conditions (such as when undertaking community visits, e.g. cold, damp, infestation, etc.) and unavoidable hazards (e.g. aggressive behaviour of patients or carers) with due regard for responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act.
