Summary

To support the Head Cashier in providing a comprehensive cash receipting and payment service to the Trust, its staff, patients and visitors. This involves safe custody of cash, cheques and patients property; accurate recording of financial transactions; maintenance of petty cash and change floats; collection of cash from various wards or departments and prompt banking. The job also involves dealing with staff, patients and visitors to receive deposits, make payments or handle enquiries. The post holder will be required to seek payment of treatment charges from self-funding overseas visitors prior to discharge. This is a peripatetic role, and it will be necessary to provide cover for colleagues at all other Trust sites. The post holder will be expected to work alone at some sites and will be required to exercise discretion and judgement accordingly. Duties and responsibilities include: Provide a counter service for staff, patients and visitors ensuring a high standard of customer service, resolving any issues in a professional manner. Receipting and safe custody of cash and patient property, ensuring accurate recording of all transactions, issuing official receipts. Processing debit/credit card payments using chip and pin machines. All income received to be reconciled to transaction records, counted and prepared for banking on a daily basis, with all discrepancies to be immediately investigated and reported to the Head Cashier. Responsible for topping up and monitoring departmental petty cash floats, ensuring all payments are consistent with Trust guidelines and recorded in accordance with Trust procedures. Balance petty cash on a daily basis, investigating any discrepancy and reporting them to the Head Cashier. Collect patients property from night safes within the hospital and ensure these are receipted and held in safe custody as required by Trust procedures. Administer payments to Patients under the Healthcare Travel Cost Scheme, in line with Trust policies and procedures, dealing with all enquiries whilst promoting a positive patient centred culture. Dealing with difficult and challenging situations, maintaining a firm but fair professional manner at all times. Safekeeping and administering Patients monies and valuables ensuring all documentation is in order, liaising with Patients, Wards, Social Services and Bereavement Liaison. Arranging for the safe return of valuables to appropriate persons, whilst working within the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
