Salary: £20 per hour (Will increase year on year for a max of 5 years with experience)
Part time: 24 hours a week

About Star Throwers:
Star Throwers is a local cancer support charity based in Wymondham that is dedicated to providing support for people with cancer and their loved ones. We help people to become well-informed about their cancer and their treatment and provide wellbeing assistance through our information, lymphoedema support, complementary therapies, groups, nutrition workshops, and counselling.
Our support is available for people with any type of cancer and at all stages of their journey, including post-treatment. Equally importantly, our services are available for carers, partner or loved ones too.
All of Star Throwers’ support is completely free of charge thanks to our amazing donors and supporters.
Role Summary:
In preparation for the future, we wish to recruit a nurse who will have the ability to actively support our service users and carers to understand and articulate their cancer related concerns and help them engage and utilise our support through their cancer journey. Initially, you will be able to work with our current Lead Clinician and benefit from her 15 years experience with the charity.
Essential Qualifications: NMC Adult Registered Nurse Responsibilities
Job Specifications:
• Supporting service users when they have received a cancer diagnosis, providing information from sources that are trusted and credible that help our users understand their disease and its impacts
• Ensuring service users and their carers feel welcome, special and valued as individuals and their concerns have been heard and understood
• Debriefing users following any consultation, treatment or investigation or service to ensure they have the opportunity to ask questions and gain clarity on any aspect of their diagnosis or treatment plan
• Communicating relevant information about appointments and tests to service users.
• Identifying areas where service users have issues or require guidance to help them manage their disease and treatments and to alleviate their concerns
• Reviewing medical notes and translating them to language that can be understood by our clients
• Identifying activities, using holistic needs assessment, to help tailor care and support that Star Throwers provides to meet their needs
• Researching and analysing up to date resources and materials
• Contributing to the training of staff and volunteer
• Supporting the Lead Clinician and Charity Manager in monitoring and identifying aspects of the charity that are under or over utilised
• Producing reports, when necessary, to inform the Trustees, in line with good governance
• Working collaboratively with team members in supporting all aspects of the charity
Person Specification:
• Knowledge of cancer pathways including oncology treatments and its impacts on those affected by it
• Commitment to independent learning in order to develop personal cancer knowledge
• A keen interest in keeping up to date with cancer research and innovation
• Ability to work both collaboratively as a team member and autonomously as a practitioner
• Good record keeping skills
• Commitment to the Caldecott Principles
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Resilient to the demands of ongoing emotionally sensitive work
• Positive, proactive approach to work and a good team player
